One thing that is different from living in Nort
h America is the need to eat seasonal foods. Very few if any tropical countries import large quantities fruits and vegetables from other countries.
You can find persian limes, key limes, avocados, watermelon, cantaloupe, strawberries, pineapple and exotic fruits such as guanabana (soursop) and papaya in season, and only in season.
Among the vegetables, tomatoes (we know it is really a fruit) corn and sweet potatoes are two of the highly seasonal foods enjoyed in the tropics.
Fortunately, much of the vegetable production has moved in greenhouses and or hydroponic production so there is significantly less seasonality among the vegetables.
Finding a strategy for food preservation of seasonal fruits is important if having your fruits available year round. You can read our review of one of the best home food preservation systems, the FoodSaver FM2100-000 Vacuum Sealing System, here.
